REFLECTIONS OF LIFE (ROL) 145: YEH HAI MUMBAI MERI JAAN
I have experienced a very interesting phenomenon many times when I had come to Mumbai, but my experience during my visit on 5th – 6th Jan 2016 was so compelling that I have to share this experience with you.
I had come to Mumbai on 5th Jan morning for a pre workshop discussion with my friend Vicky, who is a towering personality in more ways than one. We both would be facilitating a workshop on Strategic Sales Management for a seasoned sales team for a thoroughbred MNC on 6th Jan.
Vicky is a perfectionist – so we wanted to make the content and the ppt error free. We sat down in Starbucks Dadar where we started going through slide by slide on one side, and gossiping and having coffee on the other.
As we were discussing, a lady came into Starbucks. She was wearing a simple Salwar suit. She knew Vicky and both a friendly talk for a few moments. This lady had come for a meeting with a couple of gentlemen who were waiting in a table near us. She went to the gentlemen and we also resumed our discussion.
After a while this lady left waving at Vicky. After she left Vicky informed me, that lady comes from the Camlin family. She is extremely simple and has no airs around her.
While Vicky had gone to order some more coffee, I found some TV actors walking in, took their coffee and walked out. No commotion, no hustle bustle, just a normal day. I had seen those actors in some popular TV serials.
I remembered what my late mother used to say “Treat every individual like an individual, nothing more nothing less”.
Vicky told me, “This is Mumbai for you. The person sitting next to you could be a Billionaire, but he would have no airs about it, neither would the people around him/her.”
It was a great lesson. We all have the same worth as human beings, irrespective of the way we look, the money we have or the cars we own.
MUMBAIKARS – TAKE A BOW!!!
Reflection – Treat every individual like an individual, nothing more nothing less.
